Liposuction Recovery Tips
Posted July 05, 2017 in Liposuction
Quality liposuction results are achieved through the skill of the surgeon, the procedure being performed on the right candidate, and properly following your postoperative recovery instructions. You will spend several days recovering from liposuction, with your final results being visible after four weeks. These recovery tips are designed to help you have an easier recovery so you can see amazing results as quickly as possible.
Wear Your Compression Garment
Compression garments are recommended for most people following almost all liposuctions. A compression garment helps minimize postoperative swelling and promotes tissue contraction. Patients who wear a compression garment find that they look more toned, and their swelling doesn’t last as long. The length of time to wear the garment will be determined by the doctor, and it varies depending on the patient’s age, weight, and skin tone.
Set Up a Convenient Resting Area
Before you leave for your procedure, make sure you have a comfortable resting area set up. If you live in a two-story house, you may want to set up a place to stay on the first floor. Have plenty of water available and something entertaining to watch on tv (to keep yourself busy while you aren’t sleeping). Setting up a resting area ahead of time can help ensure you don’t overexert yourself when you first get home.
Follow Your Care Instructions
Proper care and cleaning of your incisions will help prevent severe scarring and, most important, infection. Carefully go over your incision care instructions before and after your surgery with Dr. O’Neil. Set reminders of when to change your bandages, and don’t shower before it is recommended by your doctor to do so.
Drink Plenty of Water
Staying hydrated is important following your liposuction procedure. You can experience dehydration from your anesthesia, and hydration is good for the skin. Drinking plenty of water can help ensure proper tissue contraction for better-looking results.
Resume Activities With Your Surgeon’s Permission
You should avoid physical activities for several weeks to allow your incisions to heal and to prevent a medical issue from forming. Make sure you receive an “ok” from your doctor before going back to work or returning to your regular exercise routine, and always remember to wear your compression garment.
