What Are My BOTOX® Cosmetic Options?
The most popular BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment is the frown area between the eyebrows. A little BOTOX® Cosmetic in that area eliminates the “angry” look associated with those lines. “Crow’s feet” and forehead wrinkles can also be treated with good results. People with chronic headaches often find relief when they have BOTOX® administered to their forehead.
How Long Is BOTOX® Cosmetic Recovery?
BOTOX® Cosmetic injections require no significant recovery period or downtime. You will be able to return to daily activities immediately after your treatment. You may experience some redness and swelling at the injection site, which can be improved with cold compresses. Redness and swelling should dissipate after a few hours, up to one day.
When Will I See My BOTOX® Cosmetic Results?
BOTOX® Cosmetic takes three to five days to take effect. The first thing you will see is a loss of muscle contraction and “movement” in the area treated. Complete wrinkle removal may take weeks or months. The BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment should be repeated as soon as the muscle movement is noted for maximum benefit, and the BOTOX® Cosmetic will usually last longer with each subsequent treatment, up to about six months.

How does BOTOX® Cosmetic work?
BOTOX® Cosmetic is a neuromodulator or neurotoxin that is injected into the superficial muscles to slow or freeze their contractions, treating what is known as dynamic wrinkles. These wrinkles form when the muscle repeatedly contracts, causing the skin to fold in on itself over and over. BOTOX® Cosmetic and other neuromodulators stop these contractions from happening, allowing the skin to rest smoothly.
How do I know my BOTOX® Cosmetic injections are safe?
It’s always best to seek treatment from a physician or licensed BOTOX® injector to ensure you are receiving the right dose and a safe formulation.
Only your physician or BOTOX® Cosmetic technician knows exactly how much BOTOX® Cosmetic you are given. It is charged and measured by how many units are given regardless of the dilution. BOTOX® Cosmetic costs the doctor $6 per unit. Most doctors charge $10-$12 per unit to the patient. If it seems like too good a deal, it probably is, and you may not be receiving as many units as you were charged for.
BOTOX® Cosmetic is also extremely “fragile!” Its potency wanes if it is not used immediately or if it is allowed to sit around the office and get warm. Dr. O’Neil constitutes (mixes with sterile fluid) the BOTOX® Cosmetic each morning and keeps it refrigerated between uses to ensure potency. BOTOX® Cosmetic is expensive. If your doctor only uses it once in a while, they may be reluctant to throw it away, resulting in a loss of potency and effectiveness.
Try to keep track of the area treated and the number of units used so you may give this information to another office should you change offices or doctors.
